As graduation slowly approaches, there's one thing on every grads mind; the upcoming prom. Seen as the most magical night of the year, many grads have already started looking into what they're going to wear. However, one wardrobe mishap may wreak havoc on the Night at the Oscars themed dance - showing up just to see someone else wearing the exact same dress.
That's where the Facebook group "Prom Dresses 2020" steps in. Founded by Emily Trites, the purpose of the group is simple - students upload pictures of their prom dresses for fellow prom-goers to see, and possibly avoid buying the same dress as someone else.
"I started the group for the grad girls to show their dresses, as it's something that carries on every year,' said Trites, a grade 12 student.
Not only has the group prevented some embarrassing moments at prom, but seeing what others are planning to wear can serve as an inspiration as well.
"I definitely think the group has helped others to not buy the same dress as someone else," says Trites. "Not that it's a bad thing, but it's also a once in a lifetime experience."
"I also think it's helped others with where to buy their dresses, which style they want, and which colours they like."
Students attending prom upload their pictures to the group for their peers to see.
Though intended for Harrison Trimble grads, the group is open to anyone attending the prom with a date to share their gowns. It also acts as a marketplace to post ads for used dresses.
"I love seeing other prom dresses because you see other peoples style, preferences etcetera," says Trites. " It also gives you a sense of their personality, in a way."
